Be a part of the Spring ITT Faculty Academy (register by Feb. 5)

I am pleased to announce a call for participation for the Spring 2016 Innovation in Teaching and Technology (ITT) Faculty Academy. This semester we will provide two academy tracks: “Google Certified Educators” and “Building Quality Courses in eLC.” The purpose of ITT is to provide support to faculty to enhance their teaching through innovative instructional strategies and technology.

Google Certified Educators

This track will provide an opportunity for participants to complete Google Certified Educator Levels 1 and 2. The format will include self-paced work and group learning activities. View specific curriculum information.

ITT Academy sessions for this track will take place 10 a.m.–1 p.m. on the following Wednesdays: Feb. 17, March 2, March 30, and April 13.

Building Quality Courses in eLC

This track is designed to help faculty develop sustainable quality courses using eLC. If you need to develop a course for summer or fall, this is a great opportunity. Become more proficient using eLC and discover our learning management system’s more advanced features at this academy.

  • Review eLC design and development procedures
  • Apply the “Quality Matters” rubric to eLC course designs
  • Tips for building formative and summative assessments in eLC
  • Advanced design features in eLC

ITT Academy sessions will take place 10 a.m.–1 p.m. on the following Fridays: Feb. 19, Feb. 26, March 4, and March 18.

Each ITT academy track is limited to 10 faculty members. Participants must be full-time with at least 50 percent of their time budgeted for teaching. Please choose to attend only one track per semester.

The faculty selected for the ITT Academy will identify and work on a project that is then implemented in one of the courses they teach. Each academy track meets for four 3-hour seminars in which a range of topics and technologies will be presented, discussed, and explored. Chosen faculty need to commit to attending all four sessions.

Those who complete the academy will be awarded with an ITT Faculty Academy Certificate suitable for including on a curriculum vita in the area of teaching effectiveness, and a stipend of $500 (to be used for travel, materials, etc.). Completion of the academy is marked by the successful implementation of the faculty member’s project in one of their courses and the reporting of that project.

  • Name and rank/position
  • Department/program
  • Confirmation that you are budgeted for at least 50 percent for instruction
  • Confirmation of your intent to attend all of the scheduled ITT Academy Sessions
  • Brief (1-2 sentences) description of a general idea for an innovative teaching project

Faculty who successfully complete the ITT Academy will be expected to share their projects and their design stories with other faculty at the 2016 COE Innovations in Teaching Conference sponsored by the Office of Research.

The call for applications will remain open through Friday, Feb. 5, with the selection of faculty announced by Monday, Feb. 15.
