10th annual UGA Global Educational Forum is March 24

The Global Educational Forum is a university-wide conference program for everyone interested in learning about the impact of the Olympics on the social and cultural landscape of the United States and beyond.

Dr. John Carlos will be the morning keynote speaker. He is a 200M bronze medalist from the 1968 Olympic games and is a game-changer, both in sport and society. Using the 1968 Olympic games platform, Carlos traversed the television screen and print media to share messages of reform, helping people think differently about racial formation in a local and global context.

Dr. Jorge Dorfman Knijnik is the afternoon keynote speaker. He is a senior lecturer in the School of Education at the University of Western Sydney and a researcher in the Institute for Culture and Society. Knijnik focuses his research activities on sport in society, gender and human rights in education, and physical education pedagogies. He is involved in projects that examine political and cultural contradictory legacies of sports mega events in Brazil. As a social and education worker in Brazil, he spent time in the slums of São Paulo, introducing systematic initiatives to improve sanitation, minimize health problems, and promote accessible sport and exercise programs as alternatives to self-destructive or socially dysfunctional behaviors.
