Research Colloquium Series: Margaret Blanchard, Feb. 19

Dr. Margaret Blanchard, an associate professor of science education at North Carolina State University, will present “Working Strategically to Support STEM Innovations in Rural, High-Poverty Middle Schools in North Carolina” 12:30-1:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 19, in Aderhold Hall Room G5.

Blanchard’s work over the last six years investigates a range of STEM career interventions in rural North Carolina. In her talk, she will share findings from a number of studies funded by the National Science Foundation (ITEST) with the goal of increasing students’ awareness of, interest in, and preparation for STEM subjects, college majors, and future careers.

Central to these efforts is the Strategic Teaming Model, which is made up of leadership, teacher, parent, and student teams across the district to support innovation in the unique contexts of these schools.
