"The Big Read" kicks off with poet Camille Dungy on April 7

Melisa Cahnmann-Taylor brings the National Endowment for the Arts’ “Big Read” program to Athens this spring with a series of literature events that will introduce residents to the poetry of Robinson Jeffers and other environmental writers.

On Thursday, April 7, keynote poet Camille Dungy, author of three books of poetry and the anthology Black Nature: Four Centuries of African American Nature Poetry, will present at Clarke Central High School from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and will give a public reading at 6 p.m. at the A.M.E. Church on Hull Street in downtown Athens. Dungy will kick off a series of events running from April through June.
