CAEP Corner: Standard 3

CAEP Corner is a regular feature to familiarize faculty with the standards from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Today, we focus on Standard 3.

Standard 3–Candidate Quality, Recruitment, and Selectivity: The provider demonstrates that the quality of its candidates is its responsibility. There are six components of this standard.

  • 3.1 requires providers to create goals and plans for recruitment and support of candidates
  • 3.2 requires providers to set admissions requirements
  • 3.3 requires providers to assess dispositions
  • 3.4 requires providers to monitor candidates’ progression to completion and provide multiple forms of evidence of candidates’ content and pedagogy knowledge
  • 3.5 requires providers to document that candidates have reached a high standard for content knowledge
  • 3.6 requires providers to document that candidates understand the expectations of the profession

The UGA College of Education will submit its accreditation report in fall 2019. Prior to that, we will collect data across the programs as evidence we are meeting the standards. There are five standards and 23 components. For more information, visit the Educator Preparation Resources page.
