USDA announces funding for research to prevent childhood obesity

From UGA research announcements:

The USDA announced in May that it is accepting applications for up to $7 million for additional projects to help fight obesity and improve the health of our nation’s children. This funding is available through the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative, authorized by the 2014 Farm Bill and administered by USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture.

This round of funding is offered through the initiative’s Childhood Obesity Prevention Challenge Area, which supports research to reduce the prevalence of obesity among children and adolescents ages 2 to 19. Applicants for fiscal year 2016 childhood obesity prevention grant proposals should focus on behavioral and environmental approaches to obesity prevention in children. For application deadlines and other information, see the request for applications. Closing date is Thursday, Aug. 4.

Since 2011, the National Institute of Food and Agriculture has awarded more than $165.6 million to the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative’s Childhood Obesity Prevention Challenge Area.
