From the Dean: Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
I am pleased to announce the establishment in the College of Education of our new Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The creation of this office follows a year-long process to garner input from faculty, staff, students, and alumni regarding how best to support one of the College’s trademark emphases — Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. I would like to thank everyone who participated in this process, along with noting the important role the J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development played as an external facilitator.
I am also pleased to announce that Dr. Anneliese Singh, associate professor in the Department of Counseling and Human Development Services, has agreed to serve as an associate dean in the Dean’s Cabinet and lead the Office. I cannot think of a more qualified or enthusiastic individual to help lead the College in our efforts to support diversity, equity, and inclusion.
I am thrilled to serve in this new role as associate dean of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and am very much looking forward to working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to define this new office," said Singh. “As a large college, we have so many people who are actively involved in important and ongoing diversity, equity, and inclusion work serving Georgia communities. As people doing this work, we know there is a need to continue learning and growing in these areas as well. I have many goals for this position, and listening will be an important first step — alongside with action — to further develop diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in the College.
The new office will occupy the G-9 office suite in Aderhold Hall and be fully integrated into all College of Education activities. Please look for more information in future COEfyi posts and please engage with the new office!
Best regards,
Craig H. Kennedy, PhD
Dean and Professor
