Benefits open enrollment is now in progress

The two-week benefits open enrollment period is now through Nov. 11.

You can find open enrollment details on the UGA Human Resources website. Select “benefits open enrollment” under the HR NEWS heading.

Key points for this year’s open enrollment

  • Shared Leave Program enrollment: To participate in the Shared Leave Program on or after Jan. 1, faculty and staff must elect to donate a minimum eight to a maximum 80 hours of sick leave during open enrollment. Individuals who donate sick leave must have 40 hours remaining in their sick leave balances (as of Jan. 1) after the donations are taken from their sick leave balances. See the open enrollment website for additional details.

  • Four new insurance options: Faculty and staff can choose from four new products: USG accident insurance, USG critical illness insurance, USG hospital indemnity insurance, and the USG Legal Plan. (The UGA critical illness and accident plans will be replaced by new University System of Georgia plans.)

  • “Passive” enrollment: If you wish to make no changes in your benefits choices for 2017, no action is required on your part. EXCEPTIONS: You must enroll each year for flexible spending accounts, if desired. Also, see the information about critical illness and accident insurance plans on the open enrollment website to ensure continued coverage.

  • Tobacco use status: If your tobacco use has not changed, no action is required on your part during open enrollment. If you (or any covered dependents) have changed your tobacco use, you must use the UGA MyBenefits@UGA system during open enrollment to correctly reflect your tobacco use.

Changes in deductibles, out-of-pocket maximums, and premiums

  • Health care plan premiums will increase 0-8 percent based on tier and plan.
  • The deductibles and out-of-pocket family maximums will increase for the Consumer Choice HSA plan.
  • Co-payments for specialist visits and emergency room visits have increased for the Blue Choice HMO health plan.
  • There are no plan changes on the Comprehensive Care plan and the Kaiser Permanente HMO plan.

Remember, the official open enrollment period is now through Nov. 11. Enrollment instructions and other details can be found on our website
