Join us today for mindfulness workshop to prevent, treat compassion fatigue
Erin Sharaf of the Yale University School of Medicine Physician Associate Program will host a workshop today on preventing compassion fatigue in health care and education professions. The workshop takes place 2-4 p.m. today, Jan. 11, in Aderhold Room 223. It is open to all students, faculty, and staff.
If you are a health care provider, educator, or caregiver of any kind, you are at risk of developing compassion fatigue. This can result in less satisfaction at work, decreased patience, exhaustion, and other physical and psychological symptoms. It is thought that this problem often starts during clinical training.
Mindfulness and self-compassion have been shown to be powerful tools to help prevent and treat the problems of compassion fatigue and burnout. This experiential workshop will introduce you to several practices that you can use and build on for years to come to cultivate inner peace no matter what is happening externally. These tools can benefit you and those around you.
Sharaf practiced as a primary care provider for 10 years. She was an assistant clinical professor in health sciences at Boston University and now instructs mindfulness-based stress reduction and mindfulness self-compassion. She is also a certified life coach.
