The College of Education and the Division of Student Affairs are co-sponsoring a conversation with two outstanding and accomplished CSAA PhD alumni, Stan Carpenter and Vasti Torres. All are welcome to hear their remarks, followed by time for questions, discussion, and a reception. Please register online if you plan to attend.

About the speakers

Carpenter, dean of the College of Education at Texas State University, will receive a UGA College of Education Lifetime Achievement Award this year. His previous honors and recognitions include: ACPA Diamond Honoree, Senior Scholar, Annuit Coeptis Senior Professional, and Esther Lloyd-Jones Professional Service Awards; NASPA Pillar of the Profession; the SACSA Melvene Draheim Hardee Award for Contributions to Student Affairs; and the National Distinguished Service Award from the Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity. He also served 10 years as executive director of the Association for the Study of Higher Education.

Torres recently served as dean of the College of Education at the University of South Florida and is now on the faculty there. She is a past president and the first Latina president of ACPA. Torres has also been honored as a Diamond Honoree, Senior Scholar, Wise Woman, and with the Latino Network John Hernandez Leadership Award by ACPA. Other honors include the NASPA Contribution to Literature and Knowledge Award and the UGA College of Education Professional Achievement Alumni Award. In 2011-2012, she served as a Fulbright Specialist in South Africa and is currently on the Board of Visitors for the College of Education.
