Forum investigates what it means to be an immigrant student during a Trump presidency

The Department of Language and Literacy Education is sponsoring a public forum next week addressing the communities affected by recent changes in immigration policy. Often, immigration topics center on debates, protests, and policies—narratives that overlook the stories from those who are affected by these changes. As a result, students and others are forced into silence, unable to share their stories, apprehension, and questions because they feel unsafe.

This forum, which takes place 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, in Room C127 of the UGA Life Sciences Building, seeks to create safe and empowering space for high school students in the Athens area to share their stories. There will also be time for attendees to ask questions and engage in a critical discussion about immigration and its effect on the people it targets.
