Faculty kudos: Fellowship for Means, Singh pens new book on writing

Darris Means, an assistant professor in the Department of Counseling and Human Development Services, has been named a 2017 National Academy of Education/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellow. He will use the opportunity to investigate and identify solutions black and rural high school students use to apply for and attend college, allowing these strategies to be replicated to support students. “There’s research out there about what doesn’t work and the barriers, but this will focus on students’ knowledge, social networks and other things students utilize on their pathway to higher education—to focus on what works.”

A new book can help students and faculty to sharpen their academic writing skills. “Successful Academic Writing,” co-written by Anneliese Singh, offers a window into the world of writing papers, articles, and the journal submission process. Singh is associate dean of diversity, equity, and inclusion and a professor in the Department of Counseling and Human Development Services.
