LGBTQ Oral History Theatre Project seeks LGBTQ-identified UGA students, faculty to be interviewed

“Translating Identities, Queering Borders” is an original theater project using personal narratives to explore the particular issues facing LGBTQ students, faculty, and staff at UGA and in the Athens community. Similar stories will also be collected from LGBTQ students and community members in Brazil and Colombia. These anonymous stories will then be woven by the UGA Graduate Acting Ensemble into an original performance piece creating a dramatic dialogue using movement, text, music, etc. A final production will occur at UGA in December, with possible follow-up performances in Brazil and Colombia.

Any LGBTQ self-identifying individual who is willing to share his or her own stories is welcome to contribute. All stories will remain anonymous.

Participation Procedures
If you agree to participate, you will be asked to meet with one of the coordinators or a participating graduate research student and answer questions about your experience as a self-identifying LGBTQ individual.

Privacy/Confidentiality
Participants will not be asked to provide any personal information in the actual interview that would directly identify them (e.g., name, address, etc.), though participants will be asked to sign a letter of consent. The interviews will last approximately 30 minutes.

Interviews will be conducted September through October, with “drop in” times at the UGA LGBT Center in Memorial Hall from 2-3:30 p.m. every Tuesday beginning Sept. 12. Or, you can arrange for an individual time fitting your schedule. See more information online or
