New mandatory reporting procedures

Based on faculty feedback and some questions raised by our school and other community partners, UGA Legal Affairs has revised the mandatory reporting policy.

For our university students with field or clinical placements in schools or other agencies, suspected abuse or neglect concerns should follow the placement’s practices for reporting. These procedures are: UGA students and faculty who have reasonable cause to believe that child abuse has occurred must notify the organization’s lead administrator (e.g. school principal, facility director) immediately, and subsequently notify their university supervisor or program director. University supervisors and program directors in the College of Education should also notify Senior Associate Dean Denise Spangler (

by email

or by calling 706-542-3818) of mandatory reports that are made.

The attached document highlights this revised procedure by placing the information about our engagement with partner schools and other agencies first on the policy followed by information about UGA campus-based events.

Concerns that are witnessed on the UGA campus or another off-campus setting (such as research collection in homes or athletic facilities) that are not under the purview of an agency will follow the prior procedure released by the university.
