Explore new research resources in ITT Faculty Academy track
We are excited to announce the call for participants for the Fall 2017 Innovation in Teaching and Technology Academy. This semester our first track investigates a few significant advancements occurring in physical learning environments. The second track explores the expansive nature of information retrieval in higher education. Each four-session track is open to faculty and graduate assistants. The purpose of the ITT Initiative to provide support to enhance teaching through innovative instructional strategies and technologies.
About the fall 2017 Academy tracks:
Learning Environments in Higher Ed
While much of the recent talk of innovation in higher education has focused on online learning environments, there are significant changes occurring in our physical learning spaces as well. This academy track takes a hands-on approach to utilizing some of the innovations currently being implemented here in the College of Education.
Topics include:
- Screen casting—the ability for students or instructors to wirelessly send content from their device to any screen in the room.
- Untethering the instructor—using wireless technologies to allow freedom of movement in the classroom
- Tools and strategies for including remote participants
- Adapting your course to effectively engage students in a multiscreen classroom
This ITT Academy track will take place 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 15, Sept. 29, Oct. 13, and Nov. 3 in Aderhold Room 119.
Information Retrieval in Higher Education
With the increasing number of available resources and changing interfaces, even experienced researchers can use a refresher course—particularly to support undergraduate and graduate student research. Attendees in the Information Retrieval track will explore the new Gil interface, electronic and physical spaces for research, and ideas you can share with your students.
This track features:
- Research strategies and practices for online information retrieval
- Open Access resources
- Learning about the Special Collections Library
- Research and learning in physical spaces
This ITT Academy track will take place 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 29, Oct. 13, Oct. 27, and Nov. 3 in Aderhold Room 201.
To apply, send an email to Nic Holt with the following information:
- Name and position
- Department/program
- Confirmation of intent for attendance in all four academy sessions
- Confirmation of your intent to attend and present at the 2018 Innovation in Teaching Conference
- If requesting the stipend, confirmation that you are budgeted for 50 percent instruction
Each academy is limited to 10 participants with priority to faculty and programmatic diversity. Those who complete the academy will be awarded an ITT Academy certificate suitable for including on a curriculum vita in the area of teaching effectiveness. Faculty budgeted for at least 50 percent for instruction will also receive a $500 stipend upon completion. Participants who successfully complete the ITT Academy will be expected to attend and present at the 2017 Innovation and Teaching Conference hosted by the College of Education.
