Dean Craig H. Kennedy named provost, executive vice president for academic affairs at University of Connecticut

From Pamela Whitten, senior vice president for academic affairs and provost:

College of Education Dean Craig H. Kennedy has been named provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University of Connecticut, a position in which he will apply his outstanding leadership skills to advancing the state of Connecticut’s flagship institution of higher education.

Dr. Kennedy joined the College of Education in 2013 and has worked with faculty and partners on and off-campus to help elevate its instruction, research, and outreach. Under his leadership, the College of Education expanded experiential learning opportunities for undergraduates and moved from 43rd to 35th among schools of education in the U.S. News and World Report ranking of best graduate schools. Research expenditures increased significantly under his leadership, and the college established its Center for Autism and Behavioral Education Research to foster life-changing research and outreach. In addition, the College forged several notable partnerships with the Clarke County School District, including expanding school leadership training and supporting Experience UGA.

Our College of Education—and young people in the Athens area and well beyond—have benefited immensely from Dr. Kennedy’s vision and commitment. He is a valued member of our leadership team, and I am confident that he will thrive in his new position.

Dr. Kennedy’s appointment at UConn is effective April 1, and a search committee for the next Dean of the College of Education will be announced soon. In the meantime, please join me in congratulating Craig and wishing him well in this next phase of his accomplished career.
