Faculty and student contribute to Dotts' book
Christopher Farr, a graduate student in the Department of Educational Theory and Practice, along with Dr. Jennifer James, formerly in ETAP, contributed a chapter titled, “Thomas Jefferson as Collective Memory,” in Brian Dotts’ edited book, “The Elusive Thomas Jefferson: The Man Behind the Myths."
The book was released by McFarland Publishing on Nov. 6. The chapter looks at the depiction of Jefferson in the mind of the general public. Who is the Jefferson to whom we are exposed in courses on American history? Who is the Jefferson to whom we are exposed in popular media? Who is the Jefferson to whom we are exposed when visiting historical sites, such as Monticello and the Jefferson Memorial? In sum, who is the Jefferson of our collective memory?
The book includes 11 chapters, edited by Brian Dotts, that focus on a variety of issues in education.
