Login process changing for eLC, Athena, and Employee Self-Service site

To further enhance the security of university student and employee information, the login process for several University of Georgia systems will change in March.

Effective March 12, students, faculty, and staff will be required to use ArchPass to log in to eLearning Commons (eLC) and the Employee Self-Service site. Students, faculty, and staff will be required to use ArchPass to access Athena, the UGA student information system, beginning March 23. Several communications are planned in the coming weeks to ensure that all are aware of this important change.

ArchPass is UGA’s phone-enabled two-step login solution, powered by Duo. Systems protected by ArchPass have two steps to the login process instead of one.

  • Enter a MyID and password

  • Verify your ID with a phone or tablet enrolled in Duo. Users can verify their ID with a push notification to a smartphone; a passcode generated through the Duo Mobile App; an SMS text notification to their cell phone; or a phone call to their cell phone or landline phone.

Once you log in with ArchPass, you can choose to have your browser remember your ArchPass login for seven days. After seven days, or if you switch to different device or web browser, you will have to login with ArchPass again.

To begin using ArchPass to access any of these systems, users will need to enroll a phone or tablet in Duo, the third-party service that powers ArchPass. Users can enroll smartphones, cell phones, tablets or landline phones. These devices are used to verify a user’s identity whenever they log into a system.

Students, faculty and staff can enroll devices at any time through the Duo Self-Service Portal on the ArchPass website. Enrollment is entirely self-service and should take only five minutes. Instructions for enrolling a device are available on the EITS Help Desk YouTube channel.

Students and employees should enroll devices in advance to avoid getting locked out of eLC, Athena or the Employee Self-Service site on the effective dates listed above. Users who have already enrolled devices to access other ArchPass-protected systems, such as vLab or the Remote Access VPN, do not have to enroll again.

More information about ArchPass is available on its website. Users who have troubling enrolling devices or using ArchPass should contact the
