On Jan. 22, the University of Georgia celebrated its 233rd anniversary of being the birthplace of public higher education in America. During the Founder’s Day Luncheon, Dr. Mary Frances Early, UGA’s first African American graduate student to graduate from the university, was awarded the President’s Medal by President Jere Morehead to honor the wonderful accomplishments and impact Early left throughout UGA’s campus and in classrooms around Georgia. Early was in the presence of family, friends, faculty, and students from various schools at UGA as she accepted one of the highest levels of honor for her amazing contribution to the educational field.
