First-year Odyssey proposals due Feb. 23

The First-Year Odyssey Seminar program is now accepting proposals for fall semester 2018. For those of you who have already taught in the program, you know how exciting these seminars can be, and I hope you will want to work with the program again next year. For those of you who haven’t yet taught an FYO, let me tell you how much I personally have enjoyed working with first-year students and introducing them to my discipline and research. Sometimes, they even become majors! So, please consider submitting a proposal for next year.

For information about the program, including the purpose, goals, and faculty resources, please visit the FYO website.

To submit a proposal, log in. From the task list, you can choose either “Propose a New Seminar” or “Propose a Previously Approved Seminar.”

If you choose “Propose a Previously Approved Seminar,” a list of all the seminars you have taught in the past will be displayed. When you have made a selection from the list of seminars, you will then have two new options:

  • Option 1: You can submit the previously taught seminar without any changes.
  • Option 2: You can edit some or all parts of the seminar (title, description, instructor information, etc.).

The deadline for submitting a proposal for fall semester is Friday, Feb. 23. You will be notified in April if your seminar is approved.

Note: If you have already submitted a proposal for fall, you can check the status of your proposal by clicking on “Browse Proposals” on the right-hand menu of the FYO faculty page.

As always, the FYO team will be glad to answer questions and provide assistance with the proposal form. Please
