Bierema travels to Italy with Fulbright award

Laura Bierema, a faculty member in the college’s Department of Lifelong Learning, Education, and Policy, will be traveling to Padua, Italy, this spring as a Fulbright U.S. Scholar to research higher education teaching methods, student exchanges and partner programs.

Bierema will work with associate professor Monica Fedeli at the University of Padua, collaborating on Fedeli’s “Europe 2020” project. This European Union initiative aims to transform university-level teaching, and Bierema’s background in adult learning and organization development will be a good fit with the project.

Branch recognized for teaching excellence

Rob Branch, professor and head of the Department of Career and Information Studies, was inducted into the UGA Teaching Academy as a member of the Class of 2017 for his leadership in teaching and learning.

Branch—whose areas of expertise include instructional design, visual literacy, project management and strategic planning—emphasizes instructional strategies in his teaching philosophy to help students become independent learners.

“My instructional goals always attempt to teach in ways that have meaning for the students after they leave my classroom,” he said. “I take every opportunity to use educational technologies that facilitate the variety of relationships found in spaces dedicated to intentional learning spaces.”

Campbell leads next revision of ethics code

Linda Campbell, a professor in the UGA College of Education’s Department of Counseling and Human Development Services, has been named the chair of the 11-person committee charged with the first major revision to the APA’s “Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct” in 15 years. Members of the task force include faculty and professionals in private practice from across the country.

This update is an opportunity to set the course for the organization for years to come, said APA president Jessica Henderson Daniel.
