Updates on changes to UGA ID cards

Following a recent meeting, the OneCard Oversight Committee has several updates regarding potential changes to University ID cards, also called the OneCard Project.

The OneCard Oversight Committee is implementing a phased master plan to position the University to respond to recent advances in identification card technologies. After careful consideration and review, the Committee unanimously recommends the EV2 card technology.

In the future, new cards will include the EV2 technology along with the magstripe technology and barcode now used on UGACards, allowing the new cards to remain compatible with most campus applications. The new technology enables the University to provide more secure, technologically flexible, and functional identification cards moving forward.

The Committee’s next steps are to finalize the transition timeline and budget and to begin identifying and prepping several test site locations and user testing groups. For any updates planned by the committee to campus card reader technologies, such as proximity and magstripe reader replacements, users will be made aware of the plans well in advance of any changes. Should your department plan to replace existing card readers or a large group of user’s cards, please

contact the OneCard Oversight Committee

for assistance in evaluating the best plan to position your department for the transition.
