Are you between age 35 and 50? Join our muscle metabolism study!

Kevin McCully’s lab in the Department of Kinesiology is conducting a study to learn more about how Type 1 diabetes affects muscle metabolism and endurance. To be in this study, you would need to either have a medical diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes or be a nondiabetic subject who generally matches the characteristics of someone with diabetes in our study.

We are looking for men and women between the ages of 35-50 who are willing to answer some general medical questions, take a finger-prick test to measure blood glucose and/or HbA1c, and have your forearm muscles tested. The testing will last approximately one hour and is non-invasive.

To be in the study you cannot drink alcohol 48 hours prior to testing, smoke, have kidney disease, heart or blood vessel disease, muscle disease, a hormone disorder (excluding Type 1 diabetes), sickle cell anemia, a neurological injury or disease/feelings of numbness in hands, arms, legs, or feet, or any other major medical condition.

We can compensate you $20 for each test session you perform (up to three sessions).
