Camp DIVE book club spurs food drive this week
If you will be in the area of Clarke Middle School this week, drop by with a protein-rich nonperishable item to help the Camp DIVE middle school students’ Social Action Book Club’s food drive.
Donations may be placed in the brown bin just inside the main entrance between 8 a.m.-2 p.m. this week (the drive ends on Friday). All donations, which could include canned beans, dried beans, or unopened jars of peanut butter, will benefit the Northeast Georgia Food Bank.
The members of the book club are reading “Ghost” by Jason Reynolds, and as part of the discussions they are exploring social issued raised in the book, such as food insecurity. The students also met with representatives of organizations that help people in the community to talk about solutions. The food drive is a way the students decided to help combat food insecurity in the Athens area.
