The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will be facilitiating a day-long workshop on trans-affirming practices for educators and helping professionals. In this training, participants will review foundational knowledge related to trans-affirming terminology and best practices for creating an affirming environment for trans and non-binary students, clients, and colleagues in professions and the community.

There are three modules in this workshop:

  • In the first module, we will review the history of trans communities, trans-affirming language, and the landscape for trans communities.
  • In the second module, participants will meet intraprofessionally to brainstorm strategies and practices that support trans communities.
  • The last module will involve participants coming together to learn about the ways they can create and support affirming spaces for trans communities in Athens.

This workshop counts toward the faculty and staff Certificate in Diversity and Inclusion.
