New faculty programming opportunities

Below are some new offerings for faculty development from the Office of Faculty Affairs:

  • Faculty Interest Groups: Want to gather with faculty without the formality of an FLC? Help create a Faculty Interest Group around one of your favorite activities or communities!
  • Tai chi and yoga: Tai chi (8 a.m. Mondays) and yoga (4 p.m. Wednesdays) will be offered through mid-November at the Miller Learning Center North Tower. This effort is co-sponsored between the Office of Faculty Affairs and the UGA Student Health Center/Fontaine Center, Miller Learning Center, and Human Resources.
  • Well-being Learning and Practice Working Group: One way to deepen learning and enhance achievement is to nurture body and spirit along with the mind. The new Well-being Learning and Practice Working Group’s goal is to discover, develop, and support holistic approaches to foster well-being across UGA’s research, teaching, and service missions. We will participate in sharing learning and best practices, peer mentoring, guided and informal discussions, and collaboration to foster meaning and purpose, and positive relationships, classrooms, and communities. Join here!
  • Faculty Learning Communities: OFA is sponsoring two FLCs this year: 1) Junior Faculty Learning Community and 2) Spaces for Productivity and Collaboration FLC. Sign-up deadline is Aug. 24; register on the CTL website.
  • Space for faculty writing @ MLC: Sessions will continue through the fall, Wednesdays and Fridays in the MLC Reading Room. In addition to our monthly drop-in coaching (8-9 a.m.) with Office of Proposal Enhancement (first Fridays); career, leadership, or life coaching (second Fridays); and goal setting and planning (third Fridays), we’re adding coaching for writing a manuscript (fourth Fridays starting in September).

Reminders:

  • New department head orientation: Last call to sign up for this valuable training program for department heads, assistant and associate deans, and directors. New and continuing leaders are invited to participate. Register online (please make a note of the title, date, and times of your requested sessions; starts Sept. 4).
  • The fall Faculty Learning Series continues through November. Cultural Competency (Sept. 10) and Leveraging Your Talents and Abilities (Sept. 19) and a full day of topics related to research (Sept. 26) are coming up soon. Check out our series designed specifically for new/junior faculty and featuring workshops offered every month. Advanced registration is highly recommended and/or required.
