  • Monday, Oct. 22
  • 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Special Collections Library Room 277 (second floor)
  • Bring your own lunch!

Please join your hosts Mariann Burright, Nan McMurry, and Lisa Bayer for a screening and discussion of a new movie about open access, “Paywall: The Business of Scholarship.” This documentary, which focuses on the need for open access to research and science, questions the rationale behind the $25.2 billion that flows into for-profit academic publishers every year, examines the 35-40% profit margin associated with the top academic publisher Elsevier, and looks at how that profit margin is often greater than some of the most profitable tech companies like Apple, Facebook, and Google.

This event is free and open to the public.
