The first International Pronouns Day, on Wednesday, Oct. 17, seeks to encourage critical reflection on why pronouns are important, affirming people who may not use pronouns, and discovering ways to talk about pronouns within personal and professional spaces.
Referring to people by the pronouns they determine for themselves is basic to human dignity. Being referred to by the wrong pronouns particularly affects transgender and gender nonconforming people. Together, we can transform society to celebrate people’s multiple, intersecting identities.
For more information about International Pronouns Day, please visit the event’s website. The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will also be providing information on pronouns on Oct. 17.
