Upcoming training: Trans-affirming practices in education and the helping professions

In this training facilitated by the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, attendees will learn foundational knowledge related to trans-affirming terminology and best practices when working with trans and non-binary students, clients, and colleagues in education and the helping professions.
In this workshop, participants will:
- Review the history of trans communities, trans-affirming language, and the landscape for trans communities
- Brainstorm strategies and practices that support trans communities
- Learn about the ways they can create and support affirming spaces for trans communities within Athens
Handouts and other trans-affirming resource materials will be provided to assist with further learning and understanding of the everyday needs and challenges trans people experience. An emphasis on trans resilience, gender liberation, and cisgender privilege is woven throughout the workshop.
This workshop counts toward the faculty and staff Certificate in Diversity and Inclusion.
