Silent books exhibition at UGA Curriculum Materials Library
Don’t miss the opportunity to browse 74 exquisite wordless picture books from 20 different countries now on display at the Curriculum Materials Library (until the end of this week).
Responding to the needs of refugee children from Africa and the Middle East arriving on the Italian island Lampedusa, the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) launched the project “Silent Books, from the world to Lampedusa and back” in 2012.
The second part of this inspiring project involved creating a collection of silent books (wordless picture books) that could be understood and enjoyed by children regardless of language. This is a traveling exhibition that has been sent to us by IBBY, so we can enjoy them as exceptional artifacts and narratives and also explore purposes and ways of sharing international wordless picture books with our diverse students here in the U.S.
You can find more information about the Silent Books collection on the IBBY website.
