UGA launches staff competency model initiative

UGA has begun a staff competency model initiative, which aims to establish a competency-based staff performance management process at UGA that delivers: 1) transparent performance expectations; 2) alignment of performance standards across the institution; 3) targeted, consistent performance feedback and guidance; and 4) performance-based criteria for personnel decisions.

Thirty-nine College of Education employees will be participating in the initiative as subject matter experts. They will assist in establishing the tasks and behaviors that are most critical to job performance in the jobs being consolidated into staff job codes. This information will be used to:

  • Establish performance standards for employee job codes
  • Ensure consistent evaluation of job performance across employees
  • Provide relevant feedback for improving performance
  • Ensure that promotions are based on job-relevant performance
