UGA internal search: Vice Provost for Academic Affairs

The Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice Provost for Academic Affairs. The Vice Provost for Academic Affairs reports to the Provost and assists with all matters of academic administration, policy, and planning. The Vice Provost for Academic Affairs also leads campus-wide initiatives at the direction of the Provost.

The Vice Provost for Academic Affairs works closely with a wide range of university constituents and reporting agencies, acting on behalf of the Provost when the Provost is unavailable. Additionally, the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs advises the Provost on a number of key academic appointments and appeals processes, faculty development, promotion and tenure, retention, and related issues.

The next Vice Provost for Academic Affairs will be an energetic and enthusiastic academic leader with a successful record of administrative leadership in higher education and a thorough understanding of the programs that comprise a large public research university. The Vice Provost for Academic Affairs should possess the ability to work collegially and respond effectively to all constituents of the University of Georgia and be a principled advocate for the institution’s tripartite teaching, research, and service mission. In addition, the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs should have a deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

This position is open only to tenured UGA faculty at the associate or full professor level. Candidates who are women or from underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

David S. Williams, associate provost and director of the Honors Program, Meigs Professor and Jere W. Morehead Distinguished Professor, is chairing the search advisory committee, which is being assisted by the UGA Search Group in Human Resources. Additional search committee members are Lonnie T. Brown Jr., A. Gus Cleveland Distinguished Chair of Legal Ethics and Professionalism and Meigs Professor in the School of Law; Dale Greene, professor and dean of the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources; Karen Norris, Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar and Charles H. Wheatley Chair in Immunology and Translational Biomedical Research in the College of Veterinary Medicine; and Kathy Pharr, chief of staff and associate vice president for institutional affairs.
