Changes to Kanopy in GALILEO

There have been some changes made to the Libraries’ access to GALILEO’s database, Kanopy. With the old Patron Driven Acquisitions (PDA) model, users could immediately view any subset of Kanopy films. A small number of views triggered a one-year license for that film costing $150. The Libraries recently switched to a mediated service agreement.

Under the new mediated PDA, users will need to request to view Kanopy films that are not already licensed. After clicking on the film, users will be directed to a brief request form that goes to mediadep@uga.edu. If the film is needed for educational or research purposes, the Libraries’ Media Department will pay for the license. This is already the current process for Kanopy films that are not a part of our PDA. The estimated turn-around time for turning on access is 24 hours Mondays-Fridays.
