Conner receives 2020 Excellence in Scholarship Award from AMTE

AnnaMarie Conner, an associate professor in the Department of Mathematics and Science Education, recently received the 2020 Excellence in Scholarship Award from the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMTE) for her significant and lasting contributions to the field.

“This award is especially meaningful to me because it focuses on mathematics teacher education—an area of research about which I am passionate,” said Conner, who also serves as an on-site instructor for the Professional Development School District. “I hope to impact how teachers engage their students in this important mathematical practice while potentially influencing how we educate mathematics teachers.”

Alumna and doctoral student win race, ethnicity award for research on Puerto Rican communities

Cristalís Capielo Rosario (Ph.D. ’16), an alumna of the College of Education’s Department of Counseling and Human Development Services, and Elizabeth Bautista Cárdenas (M.Ed. ’18), a doctoral student in the College’s counseling psychology program, recently received the 2019 Outstanding Contribution to Scholarship on Race and Ethnicity Award from Division 17’s Section on Ethnic and Racial Diversity (SERD).

“It is important that researchers work with marginalized and oppressed communities and create space in academia so these narratives can be told,” said Bautista Cárdenas. “The narratives of Puerto Rican people have not been represented in the media accurately and the inadequate support of the government has not been acknowledged fully by the government or masses.”
