Office of Experiential Learning process update

In an effort to streamline processes and increase efficiency, the College of Education’s Office of Experiential Learning is no longer using online applications for service learning or school-based field placements.

The Office of Academic Programs will introduce a new process for “new admits” that will populate placement and other reporting systems. We will also communicate guidance we have received from the Office of Legal Affairs in mandating liability insurance. This process will be described at the first program coordinator’s meeting on Thursday, Aug. 29. Find more information below for each type of placement.

Community-based field experiences

If you are an instructor of service learning courses, please have teacher education candidates in the College complete the Tort form indicating whether they are waiving liability coverage ONLY, or if they have acquired it through a membership with GAE or PAGE. Students may drop completed forms off in Aderhold Hall Room 612.

School-based field placements for non-cohort courses

Course instructors will continue to submit recommendations using the recommendation template. Your students must complete the College’s OEL FERPA form and the Tort form indicating whether they are waiving liability coverage, or if they have acquired it through a membership with GAE or PAGE. Additionally, students will be required to have some form of background check clearance (Pre-Service Certificate or PreCheck). Our office will notify students who need a PreCheck Background Check once we have received your recommendations. Students may drop completed forms off in Aderhold Hall Room 612.
