Register for the 2019 State of Education in Georgia Conference

  • Date: Friday, Sept. 13
  • Time: Registration starts at 8 a.m.; sessions from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Location: Center for Continuing Education & Hotel
  • Costs: UGA College of Education faculty and staff receive a discounted rate of $55 (includes conference sessions, handouts, lunch and refreshment breaks). All other participants can register for $95.

This one-day conference will include keynotes, posters, and discussions on enhancing social and emotional learning (SEL), as well as:

  • Best practices in supporting students’ SEL needs
  • Community collaboration in supporting SEL
  • Frameworks for designing SEL
  • A teacher/administrator panel on SEL

Keynote speaker

Kimberly A. Schonert-Reichl is an applied developmental psychologist and a professor in the Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology and Special Education at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver. She is also the director of the Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP), an interdisciplinary research unit in the School of Population and Public Health in the Faculty of Medicine at UBC. A world-renowned expert in the area of SEL, Schonert-Reichl’s research focuses on identifying the processes and mechanisms that foster positive human qualities, such as empathy, compassion, altruism, and resiliency in children and adolescents. Her projects include examining the effectiveness of classroom-based, universal SEL programs and collaborating with neuroscientists and psychobiologists to examine the relation of executive functions and biological processes to children’s social and emotional development in school settings.
