Call for nominations: 2020 Facilitation Academy

The UGA Public Service and Outreach (PSO) Facilitation Academy is a professional development program that provides a select number of diverse faculty and staff the opportunity to cultivate effective facilitation, leadership, and presentation skills. The 2020 application is open to include all faculty ranks and professional staff in all schools, colleges, and departments across campus who desire to integrate facilitation and process design in their university work with internal and external colleagues and constituents.

Please submit expressions of interest to the Dean’s Office (Aderhold Hall, ground level) by Friday, Nov. 1.

Expressions of interest must include a 3-5 sentence professional biography and an explanation of how this nominee’s participation in the Facilitation Academy will benefit the PSO unit, school/college, or department, and also how it will benefit the nominee in their current role.

The expectation for the 2020 facilitation cohort is as follows:

  • Twenty-four participants will allow the instructors to easily divide participants into dyads, triads, quads, and thirds. This will enhance discussion and learning, especially during interactive exercises.
  • Representation from all PSO units as well as extension, academic units, and departments across campus.
  • Participant skill level ranging from beginner to advanced, which will enable the instructors to more effectively use peer learning.
  • Each participant will be required to commit to attend all five two-day sessions (10 modules total).
  • Each unit will be required to offset expenses with a participation fee of $150. The fee will be used to cover costs of supplies (toolboxes and contents, binders, class materials, handouts, name tags, etc.), certificates, continuing education units, and refreshments/lunches.

Three applications will be accepted per unit. Please use this link to submit information on the nominee(s). If you have more than one nomination, please rank the nominees at the end of the form in order of unit/department preference. Units are asked to submit the nomination form with information for each participant by Monday, Nov. 4.

For more information, visit the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach website.

After receiving nomination(s), the Facilitation Academy selection committee will confirm participants’ acceptance and commitment with a letter.

Please direct any questions to Steve Dempsey or 706-542-6167. We are looking forward to continuing this important academy. Thank you in advance for your support.
