Kudos: Associate professors invited to STEM leadership summit, Debbie Daniell honored for contributions to social studies education
Associate professors invited to The Global Women in STEM Leadership Summit
Darris Means, associate professor in the Department of Counseling and Human Development Services, and Tisha Lewis Ellison, associate professor in the Department of Language and Literacy Education, are invited panelists for The Global Women in STEM Leadership Summit on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Atlanta.
Means and Lewis Ellison will speak about their grant-funded research on improving STEM education among African American students in rural areas and exploring the impact of African American father and daughter relationships in STEM. The panel will also incorporate sessions that focus on high school girls from underserved communities, provide a comprehensive analysis of factors to be considered as girls/women of color develop STEM identities, and how to best support them.
Daniell honored for contributions to social studies education
The College of Education’s Georgia Center for Assessment is thrilled to share that content coordinator Debbie Daniell was awarded the Berryman Service Award by the Georgia Council for the Social Studies on Oct. 11.
The Berryman Service Award was created in honor of Charles Berryman, a longtime social studies professor at the University of Georgia. Selected by the Board of Trustees, the award is presented to someone who exemplifies lifetime achievement and service to social studies education. Daniell has dedicated many years to this field and her contributions have made such a powerful impact.
Please join us in congratulating Debbie for this well-deserved honor!
