Students from Finland teach kinesiology classes, cheer on the Dawgs
Each week, Sami Yli-Piipari, an assistant professor in the Department of Kinesiology, teaches health and physical education courses at the Ramsey Student Center. Only this time, it wasn’t Yli-Piipari doing the teaching. Rather, it was a cohort of 16 sports education students from Finland.
The group attended a volleyball practice and two games, as well as the football game against South Carolina. Since this was the students’ first time attending a football game, they said it was an experience they would never forget.
“By the end, we’d gotten so into the whole thing that it really felt like it was our team that lost the game,” said Simo Ruotsalainen, a visiting student. “After seeing the game in person, football became part of our daily ‘to watch’ thing from the hotel TV.”
