Media mention: Associate professor reflects on working with Savannah youths

In a guest blog post on Deep Center, Kevin Burke, associate professor in the Department of Language and Literacy Education, shared his experience working with the organization’s passionate youth over the past year.

Deep Center, a nonprofit organization that works with Savannah youths, recently released its first policy brief with recommendations for the public school system, the courts, and law enforcement. The organization grounded its recommendations in several strands of community-based research, a core strand of which is called youth participatory action research (YPAR).

Burke drafted a report summarizing the findings of YPAR, titled “Savannah Is Covered by a Beautiful Wallpaper, but Behind It Hide Skeletons: Summary Report on Youth-led Research into Chatham County’s Supports and Barriers for Young People.”
