Join the spring 2020 Innovation in Teaching and Technology Academy

We are pleased to announce a call for participation in the spring 2020 Innovation in Teaching and Technology (ITT) Academies!

We’re accepting both faculty and graduate teaching assistants. This semester, we will provide two academy tracks:

  • Track 1: “Now +1 in Education: Virtual Reality”
  • Track 2: “(Re)imagining Our Uses of Video”

The purpose of ITT is to provide support to enhance teaching through innovative instructional strategies and technology. The call for applications will remain open through Friday, Feb. 14. Please view the academy options below.

“N+1 in Education: Virtual Reality”

  • Dates: Fridays, Feb. 28, March 6, March 20, and April 3
  • Time: 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Location: Aderhold Hall Room 206

NASA uses the concept N+1 to describe their research on future aircraft and propulsion de-signs. This academy, in that spirit, will explore the emergence of virtual reality in education with a focus on immersive video, simulations, and VR’s potential for enriching online and blended learning.

"(Re)imagining Our Uses of Video"

  • Dates: Fridays, Feb. 21, March 6, March 20, and April 3
  • Time: 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Location: Aderhold Hall Room 223

This series of meetings will center both on exploring questions about what it means now to use video meaningfully to support, engage, and incite student learning. What does it mean to critically consume the media we access? How can emerging video tools and tasks challenge students to make new thinking visible? And what solutions does work with video provide us when teaching online or supporting preservice teachers in the field? Participants will be encouraged to take risks, to tinker, and to try new ideas in their own teaching. Creators of all levels of skill and experience are welcome.

This track features segments where we will learn, explore, and tinker with opportunities to: consume, curate, and annotate video; create and remix content (as learners and as faculty); and examine models of and approaches to field-based video coaching.

Each academy track is limited to 10 participants with priority to faculty and programmatic diversity. Faculty budgeted for at least 50% for instruction will also receive a stipend of $500 (to be used for travel, materials, etc.). Participants who successfully complete the ITT Academy will be expected to attend and present at the 2020 Innovation in Teaching Conference sponsored by the College of Education.
