Request for general education redesign feedback

The University System of Georgia (USG) recently redesigned the general education curriculum throughout all USG schools. This past summer, a design committee developed broad principles for general education within the USG, which were approved by the Board of Regents in September 2019. These are available on the USG website.

Following that exercise, an implementation committee representing all the universities within USG was formed to develop a general education framework that would represent the approved design principles. This committee has met twice so far, primarily to formulate a list of general education competencies and to identify ones that may be deemed as the most essential.

The implementation committee has identified a set of learning domains that may be considered integral parts of the general education experience. As part of these efforts, the USG is now seeking input from faculty in three specific areas:

  • Whether you agree that together these learning domains span the breadth of general education
  • Whether you see something fundamental that is currently not mentioned
  • How you see these domains most appropriately delivered as learning experiences

Tristan Denley, vice-chancellor for academic affairs for USG, has shared this information and is soliciting feedback from across the USG on these evolving general education redesign efforts. We encourage you to review and provide your feedback on this important effort.

To provide feedback on the general education design principles and overall structure, please complete the redesigned general education feedback form.

While no specific deadline has been set for this, the USG General Education Implementation Committee plans to meet again on Thursday, Jan. 16 and will be reviewing the input received by that time. Therefore, we encourage you to provide your feedback before then. Please also share this message with any colleagues that you feel may want to provide input.

Additional information about USG’s efforts to redesign its general education curriculum are available on the USG website.
