To catch a phish

Due to the recent spate of phishing attempts, we thought it prudent to take the opportunity to provide a refresher on identifying these types of attacks and how to report them.

UGA has recently implemented some mail rules that should insert the text “[External Sender]” at the top of any message received from outside the UGAmail system. Do be aware that these filters are still being tweaked and may not flag every message, so it’s still important to verify the sender yourself. Please take the time to peruse Enterprise Information Technology Service’s (EITS) Phish Tank, recommendations, and examples of on-going phishing campaigns at UGA.

If you believe you have received a phishing attempt please forward that message to Michael Wisenbaker and/or EITS.
