Forging a way to help athletes across the country

This month’s amazing student in the Mary Frances Early College of Education is Nicholas Yanek, who is studying to become an orthopedic surgeon to help athletes like himself across the country.

Yanek, who started running in the seventh grade, is a member of UGA’s cross country and track team and is involved in the Tate Honor Society. He also serves as the vice president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee as well as the operations chair of the Student Alumni Council.

“I always liked math and science and exercise and sport science combines both,” said Yanek." In the future, I want to become an orthopedic surgeon, preferably geared towards athletes to help them become as fit as they can be and heal from whatever injuries they might have."
