Si Zhang, a fifth-year doctoral student in the Department of Career and Information Studies, invites faculty to participate in a research study under the direction of professor and department head Lloyd Rieber.
The title of the study is “Research University Faculty Motivation to Participate in Teaching Professional Development.” The purpose of the study is to investigate faculty’s perceptions of the strengths and opportunities related to teaching professional development events.
Faculty eligibility:
- Full-time Mary Frances Early College of Education faculty member
- Has worked at UGA for three or more years
- Has a significant responsibility for teaching
This study contains three phases, but participants are free to end their participation at any point. In the first phase of the study, participants will be asked to complete a pre-activity online survey, which takes less than 10 minutes. The survey will collect participants’ demographic information and their previous experience teaching professional development.
In the second phase of the study, participants will be asked to complete a paper-based sorting activity called Q-sort, which consists of dozens of statements regarding perceptions of teaching professional development. Participants will be asked to explain their sorting rationale in a post-activity interview conducted immediately after the sorting activity. Phase two will take about 35-40 minutes.
In the third phase of the study, all participants who complete the sorting activity will be invited to participate in a focus group interview once the researcher completes the initial interpretation of the sorting results. Participants will be asked to discuss the accuracy of the researcher’s interpretation.
If you are interested in participating in the first phase of the study, please complete this survey.
