LSAMP 2020 Summer Bridge Program seeking instructors

The UGA Peach State Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation in STEM (LSAMP) is preparing for our 2020 Summer Bridge Program.

UGA LSAMP’s Summer Bridge Program is a three-week enrichment program that aims to introduce a cohort of incoming freshmen who have expressed interest in STEM to UGA. The students will get a chance to experience some of UGA’s STEM rigor (chemistry, biology, math, etc.), while learning about research opportunities, STEM enrichment trips, and more.

We are currently looking for biology, chemistry, calculus, and English instructors for our 2020 cohort. The Summer Bridge Program will be held July 7-23, and will be virtual if UGA suspends face-to-face summer programs due to COVID-19. We are anticipating a cohort of 14-18 incoming freshman students. We are looking for instructors (professors or graduate assistants) who can introduce these students to general concepts of these subjects to help prepare them for classes at UGA. The goal is to prepare these students for the extreme rigor they will experience while here at UGA in the fall of 2020. The students will meet for class twice a week, or five total sessions lasting two hours during the whole program, and we can alter the schedule to accommodate your schedule if you are interested in participating.

We offer a $100/session stipend for instructors that are interested. If you or any of your colleagues may be interested, please let Shannon Jolly know and we can schedule some time to chat more about the goals and expectations for the 2020 Summer Bridge Program.

Peach State LSAMP is a National Science Foundation sponsored program whose mission is to significantly increase the number of underrepresented minorities pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The University of Georgia serves as the lead institution of the Peach State LSAMP Alliance and shares this program with six other colleges and universities in the state.
