Deadline extended: Nominations for 2020-2021 UGA Teaching Academy Fellows Program due May 19

The University of Georgia’s Teaching Academy invites nominations for the 2020-2021 Teaching Academy Fellows Program, which runs from August 2020 through May 2021.

This program provides personal and group mentoring to early career faculty members in the area of teaching and other early career issues. This includes, but is not restricted to, the areas of pedagogical techniques, classroom management, and student engagement at a research 1 university.

  • Eligibility: Full-time faculty members of all career tracks who are in their first, second, or third year at UGA (started teaching at UGA fall semester 2018 or later) and are responsible for teaching UGA courses for undergraduate, graduate, or professional students are eligible.
  • Expectations: Participants are expected to enthusiastically engage in all program activities, which include periodic whole-group meetings and monthly small-group activities. Small groups comprise five early career participants and two senior Teaching Academy member-mentors.
  • Activities: Program participants learn about the mission of UGA’s Teaching Academy; get to know other early career faculty members from across campus; share experiences related to being early in their careers at UGA; meet and hear from seasoned UGA professors and administrators; see that quality instruction is important and valued at UGA; learn about the variety of instruction-related resources at UGA (e.g., Center for Teaching and Learning, Office of Service-Learning, CURO program) and other issues facing all teachers, regardless of rank or classification (e.g., Academic Honesty).

Additionally, UGA’s Teaching Academy formed a collaboration with the McCoy-Hutchinson Graduate Mentoring Academy. This partnership provides Teaching Academy Fellows with auxiliary instruction in mentoring, the opportunity to be “mentored in mentoring,” and to serve as an auxiliary source of mentoring for UGA graduate students during the 2021-2022 academic year. Please alert the Teaching Academy leadership if you are interested in this option.

Nominations to the Fellows Program are made by school/college deans, center/institute directors, or department heads.
