Seeking new associate dean for diversity, equity, and inclusion
The Mary Frances Early College of Education is seeking a new associate dean to join the College’s leadership team. This will be a 50% time appointment with the other 50% of time to be negotiated across teaching, research, service, and/or clinical practice.
Responsibilities:
- In this position, you will have an opportunity to lead the College in enacting its strategic goals of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion for all by developing, implementing, and evaluating strategies to ensure a climate of respect and dignity within the College.
- Support all members of the College community in integrating attention to diversity, equity and inclusion within the scholarship, teaching, and outreach activities of the College.
- Plan and carry out professional development programs for students, faculty, staff, and administrators to raise awareness about and enhance their respective capacities to enact the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Work with the associate dean for faculty and staff services to support search committees.
- Provide leadership for the annual DEI Conference.
- Facilitate courageous conversations among individuals, small groups, and larger units and mentor and support those who are ready to hold courageous conversations without a facilitator.
- Advocate for issues and actions that support our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the College, across campus, in our community, in our professional organizations, and throughout the world.
- Serve as a liaison to, and work with the Office of Institutional Diversity as well as campus and community partners.
- Collaborate with fellow associate deans, department heads, Staff Representative Group, Faculty Senate, and members of the Leadership Council.
Eligibility:
Faculty members holding the middle or highest rank for their track (i.e., associate professor or professor; clinical associate professor or clinical professor; senior lecturer; associate research scientist or senior research scientist; public service associate or senior public service associate) are eligible for this position. Those who will seek promotion to the middle rank for their track during 2020-2021 are eligible.
Qualifications:
Those interested in the position should demonstrate their experience with enacting the College’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; collaborating with a range of constituents, including students, staff, faculty, and administrators, both inside and outside the College; advocating for students, staff, and faculty; managing multiple complex tasks that have firm deadlines; interpersonal skills that serve to facilitate success and de-escalate challenging situations.
