Media mention: Associate research scientist quoted on creative thinking in National Geographic

Sarah Sumners, an associate research scientist in the Department of Educational Psychology, was recently quoted on children’s creative writing and thinking in National Geographic.

“Dreaming, planning, being curious, and imagining themselves in the future helps kids feel energized and excited when they’re struggling,” said Sumners, who also serves as associate director of UGA’s Torrance Center for Creativity and Talent Development. “We see psychological benefits in terms of both mood and behavior when kids engage in things like creative writing and creative thinking.”

According to the article, writing postcards can tap into kids’ excitement and anticipation of getting mail and is also a great way to introduce them to the joys of letter writing.
