Kudos: Bhattacharya elected to serve on a committee in the MLA
Usree Bhattacharya, an assistant professor in the Department of Language and Literacy Education, was recently elected to serve as a member of the Committee on Disability Issues in the Profession in the Modern Language Association (MLA). She will serve on the committee for three years.
Since 1883, MLA has worked to strengthen the study and teaching of languages and literature. The Committee on Disability Issues in the Profession provides ongoing advice to MLA staff on services for disabled persons at the association’s annual conference, encourages awareness of technological innovations and workplace conditions that serve the needs of scholars with disabilities, addresses concerns about professional accessibility and advancement for scholars with disabilities and generally encourage nondiscriminatory practices in the profession, and addresses issues surrounding scholarship in the field of disability studies.
“It’s an honor to be selected to be part of this vital and important committee in the MLA," said Bhattacharya. “I look forward to working with this dynamic team to call attention to issues of disability and help address concerns with access in the convention, as well as in our disciplinary fields more broadly.”
